Purchase and License Information
License Information
Time-Dependent Licenses
The purchase of a new DVD-containing Conceptual Chemistry third edition textbook includes a free 6-month license for the use of the Conceptual Chemistry Alive! curriculum contained within that DVD.
Similarly, the purchase of a new copy of CCAlive-DVD not bundled with the textbook, or the purchase of a CCAlive 12 disc CD-ROM set includes an affordable time-dependent license.
With each new copy of CCAlive! (DVD-rom or CD-rom) comes a unique serial number that the student uses to register his or her license here at this website.
Upon registration, the
student receives an activation code which permits
access to all the chapters and all the features of
CCAlive! and this website. This activation code functions
only for the duration of the student's time-dependent
license.
If the student has obtained a used DVD-rom or a used set of CD-ROMS, he
or she has the option of purchasing only the CCAlive! license. Upon
this purchase, the student will receive an activation code that
functions only for the duration of the student's time-dependent
license.
DVD-ROM (or CD-ROMS) + 6 Month License ($49)
6
Month License Only ($24)
The economical 6 month license is designed for college students who typically complete this course over a single semester. The 6 month license is included when
CCAlive! is purchased new. No additional payments are necessary--you
need only use the enclosed serial number to register
your license here at this website. Students who
have obtained used CCAlive! discs can purchase just the 6-month license from us.
DVD-ROM (or CD-ROMS) + 12 Month License ($69)
12
Month License Only ($49)
The extended 12 month license is geared for secondary
school students, which includes students schooled
at home. CD-ROMS with the 12-month license are also
available through Arbor
Scientific.
DVD-ROM (or CD-ROMS) + Time Unlimited License ($195)
Time
Unlimited License Only ($175)
The more expensive time-unlimited license is provided
for departments who wish to have CCAlive! available
for their students from one year to the next or for
students who wish to keep CCAlive! for their personal
libraries. CD-ROMS with the time unlimited license
are also available through Arbor
Scientific.
Extensions
You can extend your license simply by purchasing a
new
license agreement. It is generally best to do so when
your first license agreement is about to expire.
Bulk Licenses
Departments wishing to have more than 20 time-unlimited
units of CCAlive! available for their students should

License FAQ's (Frequently Asked
Questions)
Q. I just purchased a new copy of the third edition textbook with the CCAlive! DVD-ROM and a CCAlive! serial number, but my computer only plays CDs (not DVDs!).
A. The CCAlive! CD-roms are being phased out and are in limited supply. As of this writing (September 2006), the CCAlive! CD-roms are still available from Arbor Scientific for $69 per set of 12 CDs (with a 12 month license). While supplies last, the more affordable replacement CD-roms ($29 per set) are available by special request from ConceptChem.com. Write to Support@ConceptChem.com with "CD Request" in the subject line. Ask that you be notified whether the CDs are still available. If they are still available, you'll be directed to order the DVD replacement disc ($29). Your name will be flagged such that your order ships with the CDs rather than the DVD. Upon online registration, the serial number that came with your textbook will generate an activation code and user name that will work with these CDs or even the DVD for when you finally have access to a DVD drive.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I just purchased a new or used copy of the second edition textbook, and I would like to know why the CD-rom it contains has only Chapter 1.
A. The CD in your second edition textbook is only a demo disc. The full version of Conceptual Chemistry Alive! covering the first 12 chapters of the textbook consists of either a single DVD-rom or a set of 12 CD-roms, which are housed in a small box. The DVD-rom and a user license are included free with the purchase of the third edition textbook.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I have new CD's that came with registration card
with a serial number. How do I get my activation code
and how long will it last?
A. You must go to the registration
page to receive your activation code online.
Depending on where you purchased your CD set, your
license will last for 6 months, 12 months, or unlimited
use. This information is embedded in your serial number.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Is it cheaper to buy a used textbook and purchase
a new set of CDs with license?
A. Unfortunately, used textbooks today cost nearly
as much as new textbooks. This is true despite the
fact that they are worn down and the codes they contain
for access to the publisher's tutorial website are
no longer valid. Your best deal is to buy a new third edition textbook
bundled with the CCAlive-DVD.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I'm a college student. What should I do with my
CCAlive! CD-roms after the semester is over?
A. Recycle them! Ask your professor whether he or
she would be willing to hold onto them until the following
semester. These CDs can then be given to students
who could purchase a new license and activation code
online.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I really want a longer license than the one that
came with my cd. How can I extend the license period?
A. After your original license expires, you can purchase
an additional 6 month license for $24, a 12 month
license for $49, or an unlimited license for $175.
For details, visit the order
page.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I have version 1.0 of Conceptual Chemistry Alive!,
which shows a waterfall on the front cover of the
box. Why is there no registration card within this
box?
A. This older version of Conceptual Chemistry Alive!
does not require that you register with us online.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I have CD's that still work, but they are under
someone else's user name. Can I change the user name?
A. No. You must purchase
your own license with activation code to register
a different user name.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Can I purchase an extended license before my current
one runs out?
A. You can, but it would be best to wait until your
original license is about to expire. Otherwise, your
original license and your extended license will overlap.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I received used CDs that don't work anymore. How
can I purchase a license to get it to work?
A. A new activation code with 6-month license can
be purchased
for $24. This is cheaper than buying a new DVD-rom plus license, which is $49 plus shipping.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I lost my DVD. How do I get a replacement? Will
I have to buy another license and activation code
also?
A. You can purchase
a replacement DVD for $29 (plus shipping).
Your current activation code will work on the replacements.
You do not need to purchase a new license and activation
code unless your license has expired.
